Black Sands 2015, Gyro Planes

Well first time photos on my blog of Gyro Planes, When you look at these flying machines, you would think that the rotors would provide the lift. However the rotors are wind driven only and provides lift when wind passes over them like on a fixed winged aircraft. There is no down draft on from the rotors of a Gyro Plane. The engine provides forward power only.

So here is a selection of the Gyro's at Black Sand, ZK-KIW, ZK-MGN, ZK-RGG & ZK-RJW.

Air New Zealand B777-200ER, ZK-OKA

Its been a long time since I've taken some photos of Air New Zealand's B777-200ER, ZK-OKA.

ZK-OKA was the first ever B777 delivered to Air New Zealand over 10 years ago, and is wearing the same livery it was delivered in. No news yet on the progression of the B777-200ER's new livery repaint's but I wonder if OKA will be next to get the black and white fern livery.

It was good to get these closeup shots during some taxiway works back in November 2015.

Air Chatham's DC-3, ZK-AWP

I think its just great to see in the year 2016 a DC-3 operating scheduled flights out of Auckland Airport, many many years after the airport opened.

Air Chatham's operate their DC-3 on the Auckland - Whakatane - Auckland run on Saturday and Sundays. Here is ZK-AWP taxing out for the departure to Whakatane on a great day for flying.

Black Sands 2015, ZK-DYB

A few photos of this Jodel D.11 coming into land at Raglan. This is ZK-DYB looking good with a white paint scheme against a clear blue sky.

This smart looking Vans RV-8, ZK-WLK is well suited to its colourful paint scheme, and sure is a pretty quick aircraft for its size, and one of the fastest aircraft over the fence at Raglan when landing on the grass strip.

Boeing 757-200, SX-RFA

This is the first time this B757-200, SX-RFA has been to New Zealand and is operated by Gainjet Aviation. Today SX-RFA had a special passenger on board, bringing the Material Girl, Madonna to Auckland for a concert this weekend. Hope you enjoy New Zealand Madonna.

Korean Airlines B747-8, B-7636

As Korean Airlines will be reverting back to B777-300ER operations in a few days for their upcoming winter schedule into Auckland, thought it would be a good idea and a last chance to get some shots of the best plane in the sky. This is HL7636 arriving from ICN as KE129. I think HL7636 is the newest B747-8 in their fleet.
