Auckland Airport - Reduced Length Runway Landing - Singapore Airlines

Over the last month Auckland Airport has being doing some taxiway works at the far eastern end of airport at the taxiway entrance to 23L. As a result the airport has been operating a reduced length runway for all landings and takeoffs. I'd now wish I had made it out for more photos of the landings on 23L. So made it out on the last day of the reduce length landings and got these photos of SQ295, 9V-SWO arriving.

During the reduced length runway in March from what I believe there were only to go around due to the aircraft not on the correct profile for landing. Both were A380's, An Emirates A380 actually touched down, but way to long and decided he was not going to stop in time so took off again. An an SQ A380 decided to go around due to being to high at about 200 ft.

Black Sands 2015, ZK-ZZT

I think this Tecnam P2002, Sierra RG, ZK-ZZT actually looks quite good and it's hard to believe it comes under the Microlight Glass 2 category. I looks very wide in the cockpit with plenty of room.

Air New Zealand A320's in Wellington

I made a brief visit to Wellington late last year and forgot I had these photos of some of Air New Zealand's A320's in the capital city. Managed to get these photos of ZK-OXA and ZK-OXI. The weather was fantastic also and loved the blue sky.

Emirates B777-200LR, A6-EWI

Ultra Long Haul flights are now operating into Auckland with Emirates being the first airline to operate the B777-200LR into the City of Sails. Now operating non-stop flights from Dubai - Auckland making it the current longest passenger commercial flight in the world. The B777-200LR was made for such routes and will do Emirates well on the 17 hour plus flight.

My first photos of EK448 arriving from DXB arriving just before 10am local time on a warm sunny day. This is A6-EWI, which was the second B777-200LR to operate into Auckland.

Black Sands 2015, ZK-CSS

And yet again stunning conditions for these photos of this Cub, ZK-CSS, and also wearing a very smart colour scheme. This is a well looked after aircraft and sure looked great on the ground,

Black Sands 2015, ZK-ECE

Love the paint work on this Van RV-7A, ZK-ECE that was on display at Raglan back in 2015. The light and blue sky was just perfect for these two photos, Hope to get a photo one day of it in the air against a blue sky background also.

French Marine Falcon - Guardian 77

This is only the second time I have seen a French Marine Dassault Falcon in Auckland. I have some photos of Marine 65 when it visited a while back. So I was happy to see these guys from the French Marine turn up in another Falcon, this time Number 77. It had the word "Guardian" painted on one side only and I even got a friendly wave from the crew as they taxing in.

Black Sands 2015, Gyro Planes

Well first time photos on my blog of Gyro Planes, When you look at these flying machines, you would think that the rotors would provide the lift. However the rotors are wind driven only and provides lift when wind passes over them like on a fixed winged aircraft. There is no down draft on from the rotors of a Gyro Plane. The engine provides forward power only.

So here is a selection of the Gyro's at Black Sand, ZK-KIW, ZK-MGN, ZK-RGG & ZK-RJW.

Air New Zealand B777-200ER, ZK-OKA

Its been a long time since I've taken some photos of Air New Zealand's B777-200ER, ZK-OKA.

ZK-OKA was the first ever B777 delivered to Air New Zealand over 10 years ago, and is wearing the same livery it was delivered in. No news yet on the progression of the B777-200ER's new livery repaint's but I wonder if OKA will be next to get the black and white fern livery.

It was good to get these closeup shots during some taxiway works back in November 2015.

Air Chatham's DC-3, ZK-AWP

I think its just great to see in the year 2016 a DC-3 operating scheduled flights out of Auckland Airport, many many years after the airport opened.

Air Chatham's operate their DC-3 on the Auckland - Whakatane - Auckland run on Saturday and Sundays. Here is ZK-AWP taxing out for the departure to Whakatane on a great day for flying.
