Santa Monica Airport - N421LT

Back in the USA for these photos at Santa Monica Airport, KSMO whilst on holiday a month or so back. And on this occasion I just happened to be with the owner of this fantastic blog site
MRC Aviation, http://www.mrcaviation.blogspot.co.nz for a few hours of plane spotting, and a few cold beers afterwards.

So a quick few photos of this Cessna Citation 560XL, N421LT departing KSMO on a beautiful summers morning.

Jetstar Regional Q300 Arrives in New Zealand - VH-TQM

Yesterday the 28th July saw the arrival into Auckland of Jetstar's first New Zealand Regional
Dash 8-Q300, VH-TQM from Brisbane, Australia via a tech stop in Norfolk Island.

Jetstar announced a few months ago that they were going to enter the New Zealand Regional market in December this year. From what I believe the routes and cities that Jetstar intend to operate to in the regional market in New Zealand is going to be announced on Monday in Wellington.

Jetstar I think intend to operate a fleet of 4 Q300's once fully operational in New Zealand.

Delta Airlines B717-231, N985AT

My first photos of a Boeing 717. I'm not sure how successful the B717 has been for Boeing and how many are flying in the world, but I'm sure they are popular to some airlines I guess.

This is Delta Airlines N985AT on finals for runway 25L at LAX.

Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane - N171AC

Some more photos as promised from Bishop Airport, CA on the 4th July.
Was I in luck when I saw this parked on the far side of the airport. I could see it from a distance but there was no way of driving over to it, so I headed off on foot fast as the sun was setting fast also.

This is the Sikorsky S-64 Skycrane,  a heavy lift helicopter, hence the name "Skycrane".
And this machine, N171AC, named "Annie" was being based at Bishop Airport for the summer as a standby helicopter for Southern California or where ever it might be needed to fight those summer bush fires. This sure is a huge machine and it was great see it in person, and not just on the Discovery Channel, where it has feature many times.

LAN Airlines B787-9 First Auckland Visit - CC-BGA

A pleasant surprise yesterday the 21st Aug with the first flight to be operated by LAN using their B787-9 Dreamliner, into Auckland from Santiago. CC-BGA had the honour of being LAN's first B787-9 to fly the SCL-AKL-SYD route. LAN currently use the B787-8 on the route, and yesterday was a unscheduled equipment change. LAN will introduce the B787-9 daily into Auckland starting next month on the 20th Sep.

Qantas B747-400ER, VH-OEF One World Livery

Well I made it back on Imperial Hill in Los Angeles after a long absence and also now with the new Tom Bradley Terminal open and in use. The last time I was here, there were cranes everywhere building the new terminal.

It was good to see this Qantas One World Livery B747-400ER, VH-OEF arrive on runway 25L, and it wasn't to hazy today, as rain clouds were making their way in. So was pretty happy how these turned out. I also guess the Qantas B747-400's days are also going to be number with the announcement by the airline to purchase the B787-9 Dreamliner, with also a new possible route of Melbourne - Dallas mentioned using the Dreamliner.

Air New Zealand B787-9 vs LAN B787-8

Well I turned up on location yesterday to get some photos of Air New Zealand's newly delivered and latest B787-9, ZK-NZD.

So the timing of LAN's B787-8, CC-BBA flight LA800 taxing out at the same time of NZD's arrival, resulted to these photos, also making it my first photos of a B787-8 & B787-9 in the same shot.

Air New Zealand Flight NZ1 - ZK-OKS

I know its not uncommon for LAX to have the marine layer of low cloud off the coast in the mornings, but on this afternoon at about 5pm when I took these photos the fog / marine layer had rolled in over the airport.

These photos are of flight NZ1, ZK-OKS just as it blocked in from LHR at the new Tom Bradley Terminal, great place to get some aircraft photos, but the windows could have done with a good clean.

Asiana Airlines A380 - HL7634

The light for taking photos at LAX was not the best at the time of day I took these of Asiana Airlines
A380, HL7634 landing on the north side of the complex on Runway 24L. The sun was pretty much straight overhead.

Hunting Percival Jet - NX400LT

I took these photos on the 4th July at Bishop Eastern Sierra Regional Airport, KBIH, California.

Bishop, CA was my one of my overnight stops on our U.S.A Road Trip and the 4th of July celebrations just happened to be held at the Bishop Airport for the fireworks display after sundown.

The sun was setting fast under a some afternoon storm cloud buildups, and light was terrible, but was pleasantly surprised to find this Hunting Percival Jet, (BAC) T.5A NX400LT parked on the ramp.

I have more photos from Bishop, and will share soon.

Virgin Atlantic B787-9 G-VOOH

What a stroke of luck. I took these photos on my first day in LA, and I was only there for one day at the start of the holiday so was pretty happy to have this Virgin Atlantic B787-9, G-VOOH land and arrive at the gate right where I was standing. Sorry about the catering truck and fences in the way in some shots...
